The WANADA Scheme 3rd edition (June 2019) has been jointly developed by the Western Australian Network of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies (WANADA) and the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ) in consultation with the Australasian Therapeutic Communities Association (ATCA) and other interested parties.

This scheme supersedes the WANADA Scheme dated 3 June 2014.

The WANADA Scheme has been designed to be read in conjunction with ISO/IEC 17065, the current International Standard for bodies certifying products, processes or services.

The scheme was developed by the Victorian government Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and JAS-ANZ after reviewing some of the human services schemes used in other jurisdictions. This has provided an opportunity to improve audit efficiencies and reliability by standardising requirements to the greatest extent possible. The scheme ensures that providers of disability services develop management systems designed to improve the quality of services and achieve better outcomes for people with disability.

The Australian Government Department of Social Services and JAS-ANZ jointly introduced the first Disability Employment Services (DES) Scheme in November 2001 as a means of ensuring providers of disability employment services developed management systems designed to improve the quality of services and achieve better outcomes for people with disabilities.
 

The Human Services Quality Scheme (HSQF) Scheme was developed by JAS-ANZ in consultation with relevant Queensland Government departments for use by human services.

The HSQF Scheme provides a mechanism for monitoring the quality and safety of services in-scope of the HSQF being delivered by human service organisations in areas such as child and family, community services, disability, and selected health services.

The Human Services Scheme Part 1, Common requirements for bodies certifying Human Services establishes common requirements for certification of the services delivered by providers of a wide range of human services.

JAS-ANZ introduced the preceding health care management systems scheme as JAS-ANZ Procedure 31.  This procedure enabled health care organisations to demonstrate conformance with the Core Standards for Safety and Quality in Healthcare as a means of demonstrating appropriate levels of safety and quality in the services they provide to patients.

The GP scheme was originally developed by the Australian Government Department of Health (DoH) to assist general practices to meet standards of safety and quality as outlined in the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Standards for General Practices, as published from time to time by the RACGP. Certification enables general practices to participate in the DoH Practice Incentives Program (PIP).

The New Zealand Minister of Health approved the updated Ngā Paerewa Health and Disability Services Standard (NZS 8134:2021) on 28 February 2022 for use under the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act.

The Australian Community Industry Certification Scheme (ACICS) supports service providers delivering community support services. Community support services encompass services commonly delivered at a person’s home or in their community to enable them to live independently.
