Publication of a conformity assessment scheme to help protect employment service and government data: Announcing publication of the "DESE ISMS Scheme"
The Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ) is pleased to announce publication of a scheme for the accredited certification of Information Security Management Systems of employment service providers.
The scheme is owned by the Department of Education, Skills and Employment (DESE), and builds upon the solid foundation of resources provided by DESE and its government partners, the Australian Signals Directorate and Australian Cyber Security Centre, together with the existing international conformity scheme for ISO/IEC 27001 certification.
Announcing the publication of the scheme, JAS-ANZ said: “This scheme takes the best of both worlds – at the international level for ISMS certification and the strong expertise in ISMS controls in the Australian Government– to solve a pressing challenge for all organisations in the modern age; Namely, protecting information from being accessed by malicious actors”.
“We were more than happy to lend our services to the Department in the aim to give employment service providers the best available tools for developing and auditing an ISMS, to raise their overall ISMS security”, JAS-ANZ said.
“The Department has worked very hard to develop a comprehensive list of controls for ISMS using the Australian Government Information Security Manual, and had aligned these to ISO/IEC 27001 controls. We believe the DESE ISMS Scheme provides the final piece of the puzzle; It gives providers greater consistency and choice in auditors, and will allow the Department to tailor its oversight of sensitive data under the Department’s Right Fit For Risk approach.” Said JAS-ANZ.
“With the DESE ISMS Scheme, the Department has a managed set of audit requirements that are intrinsically linked to the latest advances in information security nationally and internationally”, JAS-ANZ said.
All eligibility conformity assessment bodies with a history of strong performance of accredited certification to ISO/IEC 27001 are encouraged to lodge an application query to apply for accreditation to the scheme (www.jas-anz.org/application-enquiries).
