Forest Management Systems Scheme

Forest Management Systems Scheme

The scheme is based on AS 4708:2013 - Sustainable Forest Management and NZS AS 4708:2014- Sustainable Forest Management. The scheme was developed by Australian Forestry Standard Limited and enables forest managers to independently demonstrate that native forests and plantations across Australia and New Zealand are subject to sustainable management practices.

The scheme is endorsed in Australia and New Zealand by the Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).

Applicant CABs will need to comply with Forest Management Systems Scheme (FMS Scheme) - Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of Forest Management Systems

As a management systems scheme, applicants also need to comply with ISO/IEC 17021-1:2015 – Conformity Assessment – Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems.

  • Provides independent assurance of an individual forest manager’s performance against sustainability requirements established through an objective, transparent and inclusive standards development process.
