FAMI-QS, Quality and Safety System for Specialty Feed Ingredients

FAMI-QS is a global quality and feed safety management system for the sector of specialty feed ingredients. The FAMI-QS Code addresses safety, quality and regulatory compliance in order to minimize hazards and ensure the placing on the market of safe and legal Specialty Feed Ingredients.

The FAMI-QS Code is aligned with ISO High Level Structure for Management Systems, allowing Operators to maintain an Integrated Management System. The Code covers the production/ trade of Specialty Feed Ingredients, with specific control requirements for different processes:  Chemical; Bioprocessing; Mining; Extraction; Mixing; Formulation. The Code is aligned with GMP requirements in ISO/TS 2003 – Part 6 and FSMA CGMP Animal Food.

In Australia, FAMI-QS and FIAAA( Feed Ingredients and Additive Association of Australia) have signed a strategic agreement of cooperation for the adoption of the FAMI-QS Code in the region of Australia-New Zealand. The given name to the implementation of the FAMI-QS Code in Australia through FIAAA is FAMI-QS/FIAAA, although the accreditation is limited to the FAMI-SQ Scheme.

Accreditation is an important pillar FAMI-QS scheme requirements. It gives assurance to governments, supply chains and consumers that organisations providing FAMI-QS certification have the required competence and impartiality to do so. FAMI-QS is operating under IAF MLA.

Applicant CABs will need to comply with ISO/TS 22003:2013 - Food safety management systems - Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of food safety management systems.

As a management systems scheme, applicants also need to comply with ISO/IEC 17021-1:2015 – Conformity Assessment – Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems.
